‘FIFTY SHADES OF BLUE’ (Revived)

The Global Writers Forum Project 2023-2024

‘A contribution to the mental welfare of the policing services of the world by The Global Writers Forum of the International Police Association.’

As you may recall we launched this project before the pandemic, but with that and the onset of the war that is affecting us all we placed it on the back-burner. Now is the time to revive it.

The concept of this book project is to reach 50 authors associated with the police in some way who have a ‘police-related positive-outcome mental welfare story’ they would like to tell and might agree to have published in a collection called ‘Fifty Shades of Blue’. The story should be about policing (in its widest form where necessary) and should involve the individual’s own perspective of their subject content.

We have 35 pieces so far and need 15 more for the 50. Please will you contribute to this work? We cannot pay you but you will receive copy of the book. It will be good.

Submission Criteria:

Stories/articles must be original, previously unpublished or at least free of copyright restriction. Articles of around 1000-2000 words long would be ideal but any length will be considered for editing. Submissions should be supplied as a Word document in Calibri 12 pt. with 1.5 spacing.

Stories must be about policing or the police or crime in general or anything that might affect the police either internally or externally and can be historic, contemporary, biographical, international, theoretical, practical, hypothetical, even fictional but this must be stated, and provide a relevant beneficial message. Offensive, derogatory, libellous, or demeaning material cannot be considered. Poems are fine so long as they do not exceed about 40 lines in total.

Stories should seek to be inspiring, enjoyable, interesting and up-beat wherever possible and should seek to show individual outcomes in a positive light: there is enough derogatory material in circulation! Material must be copyright free and if previously published this should be clearly stated. Copyright will be retained by the author but allowed to be published by the IPA and the publishers, Bryn Stowe Publications, with permission.

Launch

Olga Maeso from IPA Writers Spain and I have been invited to deliver a mental welfare seminar in IBZ Gimborn in the 2024 seminar series and the plan is to lunch the book as part of that seminar in an in-line launch event. So, we need to complete quickly now. Thanks all! David Posted on behalf of David Lewis - davidlewis@brynstowe.co.uk
